
Lucia Flack Figueiredo became a member of UFCW 1400 in 1996 when the Salvation Army thrift store in Saskatoon joined the local union. Lucy became a Shop Steward soon after and participated in bargaining as a bargaining committee member for the next ten years while working there. She was a participant on the UFCW Canada Youth Internship Program in 2003 and became a Special Projects Union Representative in September of that year.
In February of 2006, Lucy was hired permanently by UFCW 1400, spending the next decade serving the membership as a Staff and Collective Bargaining representative. In 2016, she was elected as Secretary-Treasurer of Local 1400, and in 2021, President of UFCW Canada Local 1400 – the largest private sector union local in Saskatchewan.

Marilynne MacFarlane became a UFCW Local 1400 member in November 2002 as an employee of the Saskatoon Credit Union, which later became the Affinity Credit Union. As a rank-and-file activist, Marilynne served her co-workers and strengthened the union as a Shop Steward, Recording Secretary, Co-Chief Shop Steward, Unit Chair, and as member of many bargaining committees before joining the staff of UFCW 1400 in 2016.
From 2016 – 2021, Sister MacFarlane served the union as a UFCW Local 1400 Union Representative, as well as a member of the UFCW Canada Workplace Safety Committee. Today, Marilynne MacFarlane serves as UFCW Canada Local 1400 Secretary-Treasurer.

Judy became a member of Local 1400 in 1979 when she became employed by Westfair Foods Ltd. (Superstore on 8th Street, Saskatoon) in the deli department. Judy is very active within her workplace and the union, sitting on the OH&S and Grievance committees, is the Chief Shop Steward for her store, and is the Provincial Representative for the UFCW Women’s Advisory Committee. She was elected to the board in November of 2011.

Rick became a member of UFCW Local 1400 in 2002 when he started at Great Western Brewery Company. Rick has been an active member within his unit, being a shop steward for twelve (12) years. Rick has been part of the Bargaining Committee for the unit for the last four (4) contracts, and is now the Unit Chair. Rick was elected onto the Executive Board since 2023.

Lawrence joined the local union in 1994 when Saskatchewan Brewers Association merged with UFCW Local 1400. Lawrence started his career in 1990 with whom we know now as Brewers Distributors Ltd in Saskatoon. During his thirty five (35) years with BDL - Lawernce has been active in the union, representing his unit in many contract negotiations, acting as shop steward, and an OHS Committee member. Larence was elected as an Executive Board member in June 2024.

Rick joined the Brewery, Flour, Cereal, Soft Drink and Distillery Workers (BFCSD) when he began working at the Coca-Cola plant in Regina in 1984. The BFCSD subsequently merged with UFCW and became Local 319W where over the years Rick served as a Shop Steward, Secretary-Treasurer, and in 1990 became President of Local 319W. He served as President until Local 319W merged with Local 1400 in January 2003, at which point he became a Vice-President of Local 1400 and was elected to the Recording Secretary position for the 2008 term.


Ben Pederson has been working at the Saskatchewan Science Center since October 2013. Ben comes from a family history of union support, which triggered his desire to become active with UFCW 1400. In 2015, Ben made the decision to become a shop steward in his workplace and he attended every training, conference, and union function that he could. In August of 2021, Ben was elected to the executive board and looks forward to continuing to serving the members of UFCW 1400 in this role.

Jeremey first became a member of UFCW when he worked at Maple Leaf down the road from our 1400 office. He was an active member of UFCW local 248P for over 12 years and a shop steward for 4 of those years. Jeremey also participated in the UFCW Youth Internship Program back in 2009 and recommends this initiative to all young members. Now for the last 8 years I've been working as a member of UFCW 1400 at the Richardson Milling oat mill just north of Martensville. He is a mill operator, chief steward and was on the most recent bargaining committee. Jeremey was elected to the Executive Board in 2020. Jeremy is on the National Committee - Political and Legislative.
